Every Saturday we bring you a meme called Saturday 9. It’s not to say that this is a bright idea, but it is what we do. A woman named Sam started this meme because our prior meme and great buddy Lola went into hibernation. Lola still occasionally posts, but it is about once every six weeks. So Sam contacted all Lola’s participants and invited us to her meme. We are not sure why she included us, but she did. All of Sam’s questions are in bold.



1. Do you have a best friend? If yes, tell us about how you met and how long you have been friends. Harvey Wallbanger is my closest friend. We met because my current girlfriend was his ex from six years earlier. We generally have said, "We met because we were dating the same woman."

2. Over the years, how many people have you considered a "best friend"? Besides Harvey, I am very close with Rock Rolling and Johnnie Walker. In the past I was also tight with Gregarious Greg, the Cosmic Commando and Galloping Gary.

3. Who was your first "best friend"? I had a couple from childhood, like Dick Tonino and the late Jeff Carples. Johnnie, Billy, Joe and I were very close. But I’d guess that Galloping Gary was my first best friend.

4. Every person you ask about lovers say, "I want a best friend". Do you really think a lover can be a best friend? No. Nada. Never. Women and men have no clue as to how to deal with each other. Generally women are more naive and actually think that "best friend" thing part, is a possibility in the real world.

5. Have any of your lovers been your best friend (at the time)? If yes, tell us about one. Oh this is such a stretch. You want me explain as to why men and women are never "best friends" then you set me up to get clobbered. And yes, there has been at least one. Perhaps two. No more than three.

6. Have you ever mixed sex into friendship? If yes, what happened? A time or two the line has been blurred. Particularly it could happen at, say, a wedding reception after seven Scorpion Bowls.

7. What is your favorite song about friendship? Why? I am loyal to the music. That song would be from Sgt. Pepper, "With a Little Help From My Friends". There would be a lot of songs tied for second place. But Ringo Starr asking you to "lend an ear" wins.

8. Name a celebrity you would like to be friends with. Why? Meg Ryan. Why? So I would not have to say Jill or Julia. You know, just for a change. I used to have a sorted history with blondes. But all of that was yesterday and yesterday’s gone.

9. Is your current best friend, the "best" best friend you have ever had? Yes. I have been lucky to have some great close friends. But, Harvey and I lived together in a time that each of us had no money. He and I are like brothers. But, more or less? Nah, ranking best friends is childish. It would be like ranking your best friends' wives by breast size. Oh, right. A lapse. It’s in that handbook thing. Ranking best friends' wives by their tit size is legal.
